Sun StorageTek LTO Ultrium Tape Drive
Overview
Economical and fast. Linear Tape Open (LTO) drives provide fast data transfer and large capacity for mid-range tape automation environments. Plus, WORM (write once, read many) -capable media integration to meet stringent regulatory demands. The result is an economical and high-performance tape drive delivering value to mid-range IT operations.
At A Glance
- Cost-effective capacity reduces media costs and tape counts while accommodating data growth
- High capacity and throughput performance reduces backup windows
- Efficient WORM -capable media integration secures, data to help address to strict regulatory requirements
Designed For You
- Business continuance ? Store LTO cartridges in remote vault data in tape format for recovery in case of disaster.
- Compliance - The WORM capability addresses compliance with government regulations and internal data retention policies.
Features and Benefits
Today"s 24 x 7 x 365 business environment requires more data to be backed up in less time. High performing LTO tape drives do just that, economically, for mid-range tape automation environments.
Key Benefits
- With the ability to store 400 gigabytes of native data on a single a cartridge, media and tape counts are reduced while accommodating data growth.
- Backups are accelerated by processing more information within limited backup windows.
- Tape drive performance and product life are extended through dynamic rate matching and dual mode compression capabilities.
Cost-effective capacity and performance
Huge capacities to handle more data in less time
With the ability to store up to 400 gigabytes of uncompressed data on a single cartridge with the LTO 3 drive, more data can be stored in nearline automation and support consolidation and footprint reduction initiatives.
Reduced backup windows
The capacity and throughput performance of LTO Ultrium technology enables you to accelerate backups by processing more information within limited windows. The LTO 3 drive moves data at rates as high as 80 megabytes per second uncompressed.
Exceptional performance
Capabilities such as dynamic rate matching and dual mode compression enhance tape drive performance and product life.
Enhanced data protection and compliance
Stay up and running
Sun"s StorageTek LTO drives have a mean time between failure (MTBF) rating of 250,000 hours at 100 percent duty cycle. This high level of reliability provides confidence in data protection solutions.
WORM-compliant
The WORM capability of the LTO 3 tape drive is designed to help address compliance with government regulations and internal data retention policies. The LTO 3 provides an affordable, scalable solution that allows use of the same tape drive for both WORM and regular data, along with a distinctive WORM cartridge that provides added security.
Tailor a perfect fit
Connectivity choices
LTO 3 and 2 drives are available with SCSI or native Fibre Channel interfaces.
Technical compatibility
LTO drives are compatible with Sun StorageTek Streamline modular library series and L-Series tape libraries as well as leading backup and management software. LTO 3 offers backward write compatibility with LTO 2 media and backward read compatibility with LTO 2 and LTO 1 media. LTO Gen 2 drives offer backward read and write compatibility with LTO 1 media.
SAN-readiness
With native two-gigabit Fibre Channel interfaces, the LTO 3 and 2 tape drives are ready for direct connection to high-performance SANs.
Key Specifications
- Store up to 400 gigabytes of native data and move data at rates as high as 80 megabytes per second.
- Fibre Channel interface connecting directly to new or existing SANs for easy integration.
- Enhanced data protection with ratings at more than 100,000 loads and unloads and one million tape passes before failure
