Tandberg DPS1000 Expansion Module
The DPS Expansion Module is a Serial Attached SCSI (SAS)-connected controller consisting of two arrays, that each contain 6-750GB disks (4.5TB raw storage capacity) for a total of 9TB raw storage capacity. The DPS Expansion Module supports RAID 5 configuration, so each array contains 3.75TB of useable, uncompressed storage capacity for a total of 7.5TB.
DPS1000 Series VTL optimizes performance of data management operations, providing almost immediate access to data and dramatically reducing backup and recovery time. When data volumes require more than 5TB, additional storage is available to meet business needs. DPS1000 Series users can add the DPS Expansion Module, with stand-alone storage capacity, to easily grow available storage space for virtual tapes created by the DPS1000 Series.
With built-in 2:1 data compression and accounting for file system overhead, each array has approximately 7.4TB or 14.8TB of total available storage capacity per controller.
High Performance
When rigorous data protection applications manage large volumes of data, high performance system throughput is critically important. The DPS Expansion Module combines SAS connectivity and reliable, high-capacity SATA-II disk storage devices to deliver high-speed data throughput.
Dynamic Load Balancing
To help keep systems running at peak efficiency, the DPS Expansion Module dynamically adjusts available storage capacity and provides automatic balancing across the arrays. Balancing takes place when disks are idle, so normal data protection operations are not impacted.
Scalable, Expandable Storage
Long-term data protection solutions must scale to meet growing business needs. The DPS Expansion Module offers an easy upgrade path through daisy-chaining up to four additional storage module enclosures. Potential maximum raw storage capacity is 45TB and maximum usable, uncompressed storage capacity is 37TB. With 2:1 data compression, actual storage capacity grows to 74TB.
Reliable Data Protection
Data protection operations require reliable infrastructure for long-term viability. To achieve maximum reliability, the DPS Expansion Module uses two separate RAID 5 configurations on each of its disk arrays to provide fault tolerant, guaranteed data recovery from drive failures. In addition, the DPS Expansion Module supports the option for hot swapping of components in the system chassis.
Intuitive Web-Based Management
The DPS Expansion Module can be easily managed using an intuitive and fully-automated web-based graphical user interface (GUI). Critical system alerts, such as a disk failure, can be received via email or through the use of an SNMP server.
