Only the Color You Need, Faster
The new features on Bowe Bell + Howell’s Copiscan 8000 Spectrum make production scanning in color an affordable reality, even if you want to capture only a portion of your documents in color. Here’s how: with Spectrum’s superior paper handling capability, intelligent ultrasonic multifeed detection and image enhancement with VirtualReScan™ (VRS) from Kofax documents now can be scanned the way they come to you—mixed together in every shape, size, color, and form. And now with Auto Color Detect, color documents scan in color, bitonal in bitonal, all simultaneously on one system. This can reduce the time needed for scanning by up to 60% over other methods. Even file sizes for your largest color images, those with color backgrounds, can be reduced by up to 40%. So now you can scan in color when you want, bitonal when you don’t, all at maximum speed and minimal cost without stopping. That’s flexible color scanning. And, yes, it’s that easy.
No More Separator Sheets or Pre-Sorting
Auto Color Detect identifies color documents from bitonal documents automatically. Because of this revolutionary color feature, Spectrum scans faster and smarter, thereby reducing the total time you need to scan even with the largest volumes of mixed batch documents. Thus, multiple runs and processing steps needed to capture color content are eliminated because you no longer have to sort out your color documents and scan them separately, nor will you have to insert separator sheets with toggle patch codes.
Background Saturation: Reduce File Size on Color Documents
Now you can save up to 40% in file space when scanning in color with the Color Background Saturation and Dropout capability. Spectrum does this by allowing users to saturate or “smooth” document image backgrounds into one uniform background. Users have the additional option of dropping out unnecessary color backgrounds altogether while still capturing all color information in the foreground of the electronic image. This functionality presents a unique way to stretch storage capacity, preserve only “mission critical” information and tightly control storage costs.
Maximum Color Throughput and Minimal Cost of Ownership
As you look over the specifications, you should probably note, that at speeds of 125 pages per minute at 150 dpi in color (landscape orientation), Spectrum is one of the fastest color scanners in the world. And it"s low cost of ownership makes it an exceptional scanning value. What specifications can"t tell you, however, is how incredibly efficient Spectrum is because of its friendly ergonomics, its built-in VRS (which cuts errors and time-wasting rescans), and its design for easy, inexpensive, routine maintenance. They can"t reveal to you the astoundingly high image quality, which may actually revamp your view of how to create business opportunities with scanned documents entirely.
Additional Production-Grade Advantages and Features
Superior Image Quality
High-speed color scanning with the Copiscan 8000 Spectrum captures everything - photos, charts and diagrams, highlighted text, and other indispensable information - with astounding vividness and clarity. The scanned image looks just like the original document, preserving all your valuable information. You can be confident that your application software will produce clear, readable text, and you can throw away the original paper. You have to see it to believe it.
In fact, color scanning is proving to be a valuable asset in the insurance, financial services, service bureau, government and healthcare sectors. But bear in mind, when you don"t need the power of color scanning and would like even higher speeds and smaller file sizes, you can drop back to grayscale or even bitonal mode, giving you the utmost in flexibility at all times. If you decide to purchase a bitonal/grayscale version of Spectrum, you can upgrade to color at any time.
Intelligent Ultrasonic Multifeed: Never Miss a Double-Feed
With Spectrum, you will never have to worry about losing information due to multiple documents feeding through at the same time. Ultrasonic Multifeed Detection detects document double-feeds by sensing air gaps between paper: when a single page feeds, there is no air gap; when two documents feed through, the space between them creates an air gap. Ultrasonic multifeed from Bowe Bell + Howell catches these air gaps every time. In addition, our ultrasonic multifeed detection features an intelligence feature that can ignore documents that sometimes trigger false multifeed alerts, like photographs, labels and envelopes.
The Latest VRS Technology Built-In
Now with VRS 3.5, Spectrum users will experience optimal image quality without slowing down the scanner, even in color, when the original documents are crooked, distorted, or obscured by complex backgrounds or are a mixture of sizes and thickness. As a result, almost no document prepping is necessary, you won"t need to change settings each time you scan a different batch type (including imprinting/endorsing, patchcode and barcode recognition), and rescanning is virtually eliminated. In addition, Spectrum is the first production scanner to integrate hardware VRS so that it works with any software application using ImageControls, ISIS or TWAIN drivers. All this makes for lower labor costs, higher document throughput, a more streamlined workflow process, and the lowest total cost of scanning of any production scanning solution.
Other Advantages
- 600 000 Scan Roller Life – Spectrum pick and separator rollers last up to 600,000 scans, which is longer than that of any other production scanner, and even last up to 250,000 scans per roller when scanning caustic NCR paper (e.g., multipage forms and receipts that use various chemicals rather than carbon paper); all rollers can be replaced individually so you can rotate the front and back rollers, allowing them to wear evenly and even last longer; Spectrum transport rollers last even longer than that of the pick and separator rollers
- 5 000 Hour Lamp Life – Spectrum lamps last longer and are even burned in for up to 50 hours to reduce defect rates (which can be as high as 15% without burn-in); additionally, lamps can be replaced individually rather than having to replace all four lamps at one time like on other scanners
- Production Quality Scanning – Spectrum"s stainless steel transport and high-quality consumables allow users to scan 6,000 to 60,000+ documents per day with ease so you will not have to worry about downtime
